PORTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Timothy Robert Harris responded Friday afternoon to a judge's question about his address.
"I live with my mother," he said. That's the same mother he is accused of shooting to death Thursday afternoon -- 78-year-old Rose Harris.
According to State police, Harris called Van Buren County dispatch and said there had been an argument and that his mother had been shot.
When police arrived at the rural house at 92838 27 1/2 St., Marcellus, they found that the elder Harris had been shot in the chest and was not breathing.
Police say Timothy Harris was cooperative and acknowledged that he shot her with a long gun but maintained it was an accident.
Harris made his first court appearance Friday in District Court in Paw Paw where he was arraigned on an open murder charge. A judge ordered Harris held without bond and gave him a court-appointed lawyer.
Harris told the court he is unemployed and has no income. He reportedly had been living with his mother for some five years.
He will be back in court July 22 for a preliminary hearing
