ORV rider dies after crashing into dog

Accident happened Feb. 23; victim died March 7

STURGIS, Mich. (WOOD) - A man has died from injuries he suffered after his ORV collided with a dog.

The crash occurred about 7:25 p.m. Feb. 23 in the 1400 block of El Lafayette Street in Sturgis.

William Yake, 38, of Sturgis was riding west at a high rate of speed, police say, when a dog ran into his path.

Police found Yake critically injured lying in the road and the dog dead in a ditch.

Yake was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to Sturgis Hospital and then airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

He passed away on March 7.
