BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WOOD) - A construction worker employed by a Grand Rapids company was killed Thursday in Benton Harbor after being trapped in a pit.
The Total Fire Protection employee was installing a water tank at the Point-O-Woods golf course around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Department.
During installation, the 20,000-gallon, 5,400-pound water tank shifted and caused a dirt wall to collapse. The tank was forced to the side and the worker was pinned between it and the opposite wall of the pit.
Emergency personnel tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family.
