ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Four people were injured when three vehicles collided on a Van Buren County road. Rescue personnel had to extricate one of the victims.
Deputies on Wednesday afternoon arrived in the 33000 block of M-43 in Almena Township and saw two of the wrecked vehicles on the south side of the eastbound lanes.
The collision began when Kortni Evans, 23, from Webberville was driving a west and began to make a left turn into a private drive.
A BMW driven by Lindsay Eby, 26, from Portage rear-ended Evans' vehicle, police said.
The impact pushed Evans' vehicle into the eastbound lanes, broadside, and into the path of a vehicle driven by Claude Weston, 73, from Gobles.
Evans' Chevrolet car and Weston's GMC SUV then collided, "causing a severe side impact," police said.
Korie Abshire, 20, from Williamston was a passenger in Evans' vehicle. Abshire was trapped from her waist down in the vehicle. She suffered severe hip and leg injuries.
Evans suffered trauma to various parts of her body, police said, but the injuries are not life-threatening.
Weston suffered cuts, bumps and bruises and sought his own medical treatment.
Eby suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. She was cited for failing to stop in assured distance and everybody wore their seat belts, police said.
