MATTAWAN, Mich. (WOOD) - Mattawan police are investigating the death of a man hit by an Amtrak train Sunday afternoon.
The incident happened around 3:10 p.m. near the intersection of Glidden Street and 60th Avenue.
The westbound train hit 43-year-old Kevin Herald who police said was on the tracks. He died at the scene.
Authorities said the train engineer tried to stop the train before the accident but was unsuccessful. Amtrak crew and train passengers were shaken but uninjured.
Officers are continuing to investigate why Herald was on the railroad tracks at the time.
