WIXOM, Mich. (AP) - Police continue the search for the person responsible for a series of shootings last week in a four-county area in Michigan.
A police task force is investigating 20 shootings in Livingston, Oakland, Ingham and Shiawassee counties. There have been no new shootings since Thursday, although authorities have added two from the small mid-Michigan city of Perry, off U.S. 69.
In the Walled Lake school district, students in Wixom are having indoor recess Monday, and the doors are locked. They're not sure how long the policy will be in effect. Wixom has had half the shootings.
Authorities on Sunday released a drawing of a man suspected in the shootings. Tipsters tell police he appears to be a white man in his 30s.
Since no windshields have been hit and bullets have been found in low areas like tires, it seems this suspect isn't aiming to kill, but no one knows his intentions for certain.
"Even if this guys trying not to hit someone, you shoot at a moving vehicle, guy slows down, speeds up and you got unintended consequences," said Former FBI agent Andy Arena.
Authorities are working to develop a profile of their suspect but at end of the day, their most important tool is the public.
"The key to this is going to be a witness out there. Somebody is going to see something," said Arena.
Authorities stress that crime can impact a person at any time, so they say people should live their lives as usual but be aware, vigilant and careful -- advice hey give all the time.
