DETROIT (AP) - A man carrying a flower pot to a Detroit police station had a surprise for officers: a grenade.

The station on Detroit's east side was evacuated Friday while officers awaited the arrival of the bomb squad. Commander Steven Dolunt says the grenade was taken to a city park, Belle Isle, and safely detonated.

Dolunt says the man found the grenade under his mother's porch and presented it to an officer at the front door of the station. He says the grenade was at least 80 years old.

It's not the first time a grenade has been presented to police. In fact, there's a sign on the door that says no weapons -- including hand grenades.
