DETROIT (WOOD) - Sunday was an incredible sports day in Detroit.
First the Lions capped off a come-from-behind win against the Seattle Seahawks, and just across the street the Tigers were hoping to survive in the World Series against the San Francisco Giants.
Chances are, many of you watched the games from your couch, but 24 Hour News 8's crews in Detroit caught up with a West Michigan family who attended both games.
"We've got...one half of our sweep. We're on a doubleheader sweep today," said Jerry Bagierek before the start of Game 4 of the World Series.
Bagierek, his daughter, Sara, and son, Joe, didn't have to choose which game to attend.
Just before 1 p.m. Sunday, they went through the gates at Ford Field. An hour before the first pitch, they were in their seats at Comerica Park.
"I've done this for exhibition football in the Tigers regular season...a doubleheader in one day...but this is pretty special," sadi Jerry, a retired coach from Saugatuck.
His son and daughter grew up cheering on Motown teams.
A double win, especially when one team is playing for the pennant, would have been something special; despite the cold winds whipping through Comerica Park.
"He's coming from Miami...," Jerry said while pointing to his son.
"That's all right...the warm blood is back," said Joe.
The father and son duo planned out the scenario in advance.
When World Series tickets went on sale, they hopped on the Internet and it paid off. They scored tickets for all three Comerica games. Jerry already had Lions season tickets.
But if you think the Bagiereks are in for some sort of Detroit sports burn-out, think again.
"No," said Sara. "None. Not hard to stay alert for this. This is great. At the end of the day, coming to the game is the point. Hopefully they win but, either way, still a Tigers fan."
The Tigers lost to the Giants 4-3 in 10 innings, as San Francisco won the World Series 4-0.
