Over the philanthropic effort

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) - Operators of an orphanage in Haiti have sued journalist and author Mitch Albom along with one of his charities over the philanthropic effort.

This week in suburban Detroit the operators of the Caring and Sharing Mission in Port-au-Prince sued Albom and his A Hole in the Roof Foundation. They claim the Detroit Free Press columnist committed fraud and misrepresented plans for the orphanage.

A message seeking comment was left Friday by The Associated Press for lawyer Eric Scheible. He spoke this week for Albom and the foundation, calling the claims "patently false."

Details of the lawsuit were reported by the Free Press and The Detroit News.

Albom and the mission's founder the Rev. John Hearn of Inkster entered an operating agreement after the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
