FRASER, Mich. (AP) - The father of a Michigan soldier killed in an explosion in Afghanistan says his son was a "true leader" who from a young age showed his potential to fill such a role.
The Defense Department announced Friday that 25-year-old 1st Lt. Todd Lambka of Fraser, north of Detroit, died Wednesday when an improvised explosive device detonated in Paktika province. Private first-class Jesus Lopez of San Bernardino, Calif., also was killed. Lopez was 22.
Brian Lambka tells The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens (http://bit.ly/NvkB5X ) his son "died doing what he believed in, and what he felt he was born to do."
Todd Lambka was a 2006 graduate of Eisenhower High School in Macomb County's Shelby Township who graduated in 2010 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
