CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The Pentagon says a 31-year-old Army specialist from southeastern Michigan was one of five soldiers killed in an insurgent attack in Afghanistan.
The military identified him Wednesday as Spc. Shane H. Ahmed. He was from Macomb County's Chesterfield Township, about 25 miles northeast of Detroit.
The Pentagon says five members of a unit from Fort Campbell, Ky., were killed when insurgents opened fire on them Sunday with small arms in Kunar province.
The others killed were 26-year-old Spc. Nathan E. Lillard of Knoxville, Tenn.; 27-year-old Spc. Scott T. Nagorski of Greenfield, Wis.; 25-year-old Spc. Jesse A. Snow of Fairborn, Ohio; and 19-year-old Pfc. Christian M. Warriner of Mills River, N.C.
