Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has moved into a $309,950 home in Texas, raising questions about the small restitution payments he's making to the city.
Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and resigned from office as part of a plea deal in 2008. A judge found he had lied at a civil trial in a lawsuit that cost Detroit $8.4 million.
The former mayor has been ordered to pay the city $1 million and still owes more than $860,000. He went to jail in May 2010 for failing to disclose assets that could have reduced that amount.
The Detroit News says Kilpatrick is now making restitution payments of $160 a month.
A Kilpatrick attorney, Daniel Hajji, says it's not clear how much the ex-mayor is paying in rent.
