DETROIT (AP) - State police say a traffic confrontation led someone to open fire on a couple driving on Interstate 94 after a night at a Detroit casino, wounding the man and woman.

Lt. Michael Shaw says the shooting happened about 3:10 a.m. Tuesday on westbound I-94 in Detroit.

Shaw says the injured man told investigators that there was a traffic incident with another vehicle before the shootings. The man says the black Ford Expedition followed and someone in it opened fire before it drove off.

Shaw says the couple had been at the MGM Grand Detroit casino. He says their names aren't being released.

The lieutenant says the woman was hit nine times and underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries. He says the man's wounds weren't life threatening.
