HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured after police said a car hit her early Tuesday morning.
Justice Alberta was crossing Riley Street to the north near 136th Avenue in Holland Township. A westbound vehicle was stopped at the intersection as the driver waited to turn south.
Justice, who attends Macatawa Bay Middle School, ran behind this vehicle and into the path of an oncoming car, police said.
The driver of the second vehicle was school counselor Pam VanZwoll. She had a green traffic light at the intersection, and told police she did not see the child and could not stop in time.
Rescue personnel arrived at the scene around 7:15 a.m. and tended to Justice's head injury.
The girl was taken to Holland Hospital and later transferred to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. She is listed in serious condition.
A group of students at the school, including Justice's friend Ashley Evans are planning shirts for Friday, each with one letter of Justice's name.
"I just hope she gets better," Evans said.
