GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - Residents in Grand Haven's east side are being asked to check their basements to see if sewage has leaked into their homes.

A pump failure in Grand Haven's sewer system Saturday caused the back-up problems on the city's east side, according to a release from Assistant City Manager Sam Janson.

Janson advises residents who have sewer back-up problems to contact a professional emergency cleaning service to clean up any affected areas.

Anyone in Grand Haven affected by a sewage back up is asked to call 616-847-3488 or 616-847-3487.

The sewers are being worked on and they hope to have proper flow again by Saturday afternoon, Janson wrote in the release.

It is unknown how many residents were affected by the sewage back-up.
