HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A Holland man has pleaded guilty to driving drunk and causing a car crash that left an 18-year-old Hamilton girl dead.
Eleazar Mendoza pleaded guilty Tuesday in Ottawa County Circuit Court to operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
Bethany Rozema was killed in the crash near the intersection of 17th Street and Pine Avenue in Holland in the early morning hours of Feb. 23.
Rozema was driving south and proceeded through a flashing yellow traffic light. Mendoza was westbound and did not stop at a flashing red light, resulting in the collision, police said in a news release.
Additionally, Rozema's family has filed a lawsuit against Mendoza and the Curragh Irish Pub in Holland, where the family claims Mendoza had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.
Mendoza's sentencing is scheduled for July 9.
