HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - An Ottawa County Jail inmate was recaptured in a nearby neighborhood after fleeing from Holland Hospital during a medical evaluation.
Police and hospital staff saw the man flee and called for backup at 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities had to close roads in a neighborhood for 20 minutes as they searched for him. He was located a few blocks away on Van Raalte Avenue near Holland High School and taken back into custody. He reportedly was on a bike at that time.
Records show the man who dispatchers named was booked into the Ottawa County Jail on Aug. 30, but was "off-site with another agency."
An Ottawa County dispatch supervisor said Holland police assisted, but the sheriff's department is handling the investigation.
