HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A Holland man who disappeared Tuesday and later seen causing a traffic backup in West Michigan was located in Alabama, police said.

Paul French, 86, called his family Wednesday and told them he was in Clanton, Ala., according to the Holland Department of Public Safety.

He was met with extended family in the southern state.

French suffers from diabetes and dementia, and did not have his medication with him, causing concern for his safety, police said.

Authorities had been trying to ping French's cellphone, police said, but it had been turned off.

After leaving his Ottawa County home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, French was spotted later in the morning driving slow on southbound M-40 near Hamilton in Allegan County.

He has been living in Holland since April and is originally from the Bangor area.
