ALLENDALE, Mich. (WOOD) - Several fire crews were called out to Grand Valley State University in Allendale Saturday afternoon after reports of heavy smoke inside one of the dorms on campus.
Around 12:45 p.m., dispatchers received calls of heavy smoke at the North C Living Center on GVSU's campus. Allendale and Georgetown Township fire departments were called out to the scene.
Students were evacuated from the building when crews arrived on scene. The top floor was full of heavy smoke when fire crews got inside the building.
Crews cleaned the mess before letting students back in to the dorm.
Authorities originally believed the source was burnt food on a stove, but fire investigators later determined that clothes put on a stove started a fire that caused heavy smoke to fill the building.
No one was hurt in the incident.
