GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Haven Department of Public Safety officer is recovering and an 18-year-old Grand Haven man is in custody after allegedly assaulting the officer with a wine bottle early Sunday morning.

The 11-year veteran investigated a noise disturbance at 2:57 a.m. on Clinton Street, according to a news release. The suspect hit the officer in the head multiple times shortly after the officer arrived at the residence.

The two men then got into a physical altercation, resulting in the officer using a Taser to subdue the suspect, who was then handcuffed.

The officer was taken to a hospital.

The suspect, identified Tuesday as 18-year-old Alexander Snively, is in the Ottawa County Jail and facing charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm (a 10-year felony). His bond was set at $50,000.
