MARNE, Mich. (WOOD) - Two people were killed and a third was injured in a New Year's Eve crash north of Marne.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection Arthur Street and 16th Street in Ottawa County's Wright Township.

Edward Bylsma, 84, and his 81-year-old wife, Elizabeth, were headed west on Arthur Street in a Dodge Ram pickup truck when he ran the stop sign at 16th Street, authorities say. The truck broadsided a southbound minivan on the driver's side.

The driver of the minivan, Steven Robin, was killed immediately.

Police said Aero Med was called to the scene for Edward Bylsma, but he died before it arrived. Investigators said he was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected.

Elizabeth Blysma is hospitalized in serious condition.

There were several power lines down at the scene, but police said they did not hamper the investigation.

"The power lines are not touching the vehicles and the scene is safe from the power lines," said Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Matt Wildfong, "Consumers is en route to take care of their power lines right now."

Authorities said it's unknown if alcohol was a factor and that they are awaiting toxicology result
