COOPERSVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - A man described by highway passersby as driving erratically and at a high rate of speed crashed into two other vehicles before being arrested during a traffic stop.

The 49-year-old Grand Rapids resident, apparently under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said, could face numerous charges.

Several drivers called 911 around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday after noticing the suspect's driving behavior along Interstate 96 near Coopersville.

The suspect then crashed his Cadillac Escalade into another vehicle at the off-ramp to 68th Avenue, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. The occupants in the other vehicle -- a man and a woman from Holland -- suffered minor injuries in the collision.

The suspect did not stop and continued driving south on 68th Avenue and turned west on Warner Street where his SUV struck a second vehicle, police said. No one was injured in this collision.

Police then caught up with the suspect on northbound U.S. 31 near Lake Michigan Drive, and were able to pull over the suspect's vehicle near Lincoln Street.

The driver was then taken into custody.
