ZEELAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A driver trying to get away from police hit another vehicle before losing control of his car, then ran away before being caught late Monday afternoon.

Zeeland police first tried to pull the 30-year-old driver over on a traffic violation around 4:15 p.m., officials said in a release. But the driver sped away on Chicago Drive, turned onto Waverly and then onto 16th Street.

Holland police entered the chase once he crossed from Zeeland into Holland.

He hit another car at 16th and Columbia but kept going. A person in that car suffered a minor injury.

He lost control of his car and hit a tree around 17th and Harrison. He got out of the car and ran away. He was spotted and arrested around 21st and Cleveland Avenue a few minutes later.

The man, now being held in the Ottawa County Jail, is a parole absconder and is also wanted in another jurisdiction. He faces a variety of charges.
