GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - A 22-year-old man whose college roommate was shot during a drug raid at their apartment has entered a plea in connection with the case.
Conor Bardallis pleaded guilty Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court to delivery and manufacture of marijuana. In exchange for the plea, the prosecutor agrees that there will be no further charges in this case. Bardallis will be sentenced on Dec. 28.
Bardallis sold 3 grams (one-tenth of an ounce) of marijuana for $50 to an undercover officer in February. His roommate, 21-year-old Derek Copp, sold 3.3 grams of marijuana (about one-eighth of an ounce) for $60 to an undercover officer.
Drug officers then raided the Campus View apartment on March 11.
Ottawa County Deputy Ryan Huizenga entered the rear sliding glass door of the lower-level apartment, 10255 42nd Ave. in Allendale Township, when he fired a gunshot. Prosecutors said he mistakenly had his finger on the trigger, instead of the trigger lock, which led to the shooting.
Copp was at the door, pulling open the curtain, when the shot was fired. He was hit in the chest and seriously injured.
Copp pleaded guilty to the same charges against Bardallis, and was sentenced in August -- 18 months probation, 40 hours of community service and $300 in fines. The judge also gave Copp permission to leave the state. The judge allowed the record to be expunged if Copp completes probation and stays out of trouble.
Huizenga was sentenced to six months probation, $400 in fine and 80 hours of community service after pleading guilty to reckless discharge of a weapon, a misdemeanor. He returned to duty after a stint on paid administrative leave.
