Coopersville barn fire seen for miles

Langeland Farms

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - Fire destroyed a hay barn at an Ottawa County chicken and dairy farm Wednesday morning.

Multiple fire departments responded around 6:30 a.m. to Langeland Farms in the 5000 block of Garfield Street in Coopersville.

Smoke and flames could be seen for miles.

No animals were injured as farmers moved chickens and cattle away from the blaze inside the barn that was built in 1906.

The cause of the fire is unknown, officials at the scene told 24 Hour News 8.

The owner, Lester Langeland, told 24 Hour News 8 this is the third fire on the property in the past 10 years. A hay barn and a shop were destroyed in those other blazes.

Langeland said he will once again rebuild following the latest incident.

Langeland told 24 Hour News 8 earlier this month the severe drought is taking a toll on his corn crop, and that "If rains come it ain't going to respond to it."
