Man tries to rob mom near middle school

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - A masked man tried to rob a mother as she picked up her son from West Middle School in Holland, but fled without getting any money.

Parents were at the school to pick up their children because of a power outage. As parents milled about outside the school, one mother was standing on the road.

A man wearing a ski mask approached her with his hand in his pocket and demanded money, said Tom Page, the spokesperson for Holland Public Schools. She screamed, the man fled and the school was alerted.

The middle school and Holland High School were briefly placed on lockdown.

Police brought K-9 officers to search for the man, but believe he hopped in a car and sped away.

The investigation continues.
