GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The baby who was hospitalized when he was just 6 weeks old after allegedly being shaken by his father has been allowed to go home.

Bentley McIntyre, now 9 weeks old, was released from Helen DeVos Children's Hospital on Wednesday, according to the "Prayers for Bentley" Facebook page.

The baby's father Justin McIntyre, 23, now faces a charge of first-degree child abuse. He was arrested on Aug. 24 after police said he shook Bentley at their Ferrysburg home. The child was originally hospitalized with serious brain injuries at North Ottawa Community Hospital in Grand Haven, but then airlifted to the Grand Rapids facility.

In the week after being admitted to the hospital, baby Bentley suffered several seizures and had bleeding in the brain and a staph infection, according to a family friend.

The boy's mother and grandmother couldn't work in order to stay by his side at the hospital. A fund for expenses has been set up at Fifth Third Bank under "Bentley Benefit."
