GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Haven High School student is awaiting sentencing for a crash that injured several of her friends.
24 Hour News 8 has confirmed Danielle Michaels pleaded no contest Monday to committing moving violation causing a serious impairment of body function, which is a misdemeanor.
She will be back in court Nov. 15.
A no contest plea does not mean she admits guilt -- but it will be treated as a guilty plea when she is sentenced. The 17-year-old does not face jail time.
In March, Danielle was driving with four other juniors from the school to a basketball game in East Lansing when their vehicle crashed near Lowell.
Three of the girls were ejected and all five were seriously hurt. One of the victims, Brittany Olds, spent several months in a hospital.
A police report shows Danielle was distracted by a cellphone, speeding and talking with her friends.
