GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Authorities have arrested a 23-year-old Spring Lake man after his baby son was hospitalized with symptoms indicating he had been shaken.
Six-week-old Bentley Ryan McIntyre was originally hospitalized with serious brain injuries at North Ottawa Community Hospital in Grand Haven, but was then airlifted to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.
"He has bleeding in his brain and has had two seizures," his mother posted on her Facebook page early Friday.
As of Friday afternoon, Bentley remained in critical condition, 24 Hour News 8 confirmed.
Authorities were first notified of the alleged crime around 2 a.m. Friday by North Ottawa hospital staff.
Bentley's father, Justin McIntyre, was charged with first-degree child abuse and is being held in jail on a $75,000 bond. He will be back in court next week.
McIntyre was arraigned Friday morning and denied contact with Bentley or Bentley's mother, Kaylee Zalsman.
Zalsman's Facebook page indicates she is at the Grand Rapids hospital with her son.
"Mama loves you baby boy your a fighter just like mommy. I love you more then anything little guy," her Facebook post reads.
