PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Three teens allegedly responsible for a series of car break-ins were caught after taking pictures of themselves and leaving the digital storage card at the scene.

There were 12 vehicle break-ins between July 8-10 in the area of 144th and Division, plus several mailboxes damaged or destroyed in the same area and period.

In one of the break-ins the trio stopped to take photographs of themselves with a stolen digital camera. They destroyed the camera but left it at the scene.

Ottawa County deputies recovered the digital storage card from the camera and identified the teens through those photographs.

The three, 15 and 16 years old, will be charged with felony larceny from vehicles. They will be charged as juveniles and have been released to the custody of their parents.

Lt. Mark Bennett told 24 Hour News 8 most of the stolen property, valued at more than $3,000, has been recovered.
