OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD) - Ottawa County received about 8,400 doses of the H1N1 vaccine Thursday, but there isn't just one specific place to get the shot. The county is breaking up its share and distributing it through health care providers.
Lakewood Family Medicine was given about 300 doses of the vaccine for its 3,500 patients. By Thursday evening, the facility had run out of the injectible version of the vaccine.
Now, the office has a few doses of the nasal spray left, but many patients cannot receive that type of vaccine.
Currently, only the priority group can get the vaccine, which includes pregnant women, people ages 6 months to 24 years, those who live with or care for people younger than 6 months old; and those ages 25 to 64 years who have chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems.
Ottawa County learned there will be a delay in the next shipment of vaccines. More may not arrive until late November.
