Nunica boy dies after sledding accident

Chance Nash was 5th grader in Spring Lake

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - A 5th grader at Spring Lake Intermediate School died after a sledding accident on New Year's Eve.

Chance Nash, 11, died at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids after the accident at Duncan Woods. His father said he hit a log or a post.

The boy was first taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital and then transferred to Spectrum.

The Grand Haven police were called around 11:15 a.m. New Year's Day to look into the events surrounding his death.

Dennis Furton, the superintendent for Spring Lake, said there will be a crisis-counseling team available for anyone impacted by the 5th grader's death. The counseling will be held from 12 Noon - 3 p.m. Saturday at the Intermediate School Media Center, 345 Hammond in Spring Lake.
