HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - The woman who says she was sexually assaulted by the Holland city attorney prosecuting her drunken driving case is having her situation reviewed again.
Holland appointed Zeeland city attorney James Donkersloot to take over as the case's prosecutor to avoid any conflict of interest.
He will contact the woman's lawyer to discuss her charges, he told 24 Hour News 8 on Tuesday. The woman originally was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
When the alleged victim when to 58th district court in Holland on Nov. 3, she was sexually assaulted by former prosecutor Carl Gabrielse, she claims. Immediately after the alleged attack, her drunken driving charge was reduced to impaired driving.
Gabrielse was fired Nov. 6 and is under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.
No requests have been made by the woman for a reduced charge in exchange for her cooperation in the case, Donkersloot said. There have been no requests for a new judge or change of venue.
Investigators told the woman criminal charges are expected against Gabrielse, the woman's attorney told 24 Hour News 8.
