PORT SHELDON, Mich. (WOOD) - A Holland man crashed a pick-up truck into two trees Monday evening, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened on Lakeshore Drive near Stanton Street in Port Sheldon Township around 6:30 p.m.

Police said Kelly Joel Ritsema, 28, was pinned in the vehicle for about 45 minutes before emergency crews were able to get him out.

A medical helicopter flew the victim to a Grand Rapids-area hospital for treatment. He was listed in critical condition early Tuesday morning.

Sheriff's deputies said Ritsema was driving his pick-up at a high rate of speed when he lost control and hit two trees. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
