Jenison student died while texting
Eric Helm hit truck head-on

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- A Jenison High School student killed while driving to school was texting at the time of the crash, Ottawa County investigators told 24 Hour News 8.
Eric Helm died in the crash on January 12.
Interviews and a review of phone records show Helm was texting his girlfriend when he crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on.
However, his parents dispute the information. Eric's father, Bob Helms, told 24 Hour News 8 any number of distractions could have contributed to the crash.
