HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Authorities in Ottawa County say eight fires at a residence since 2003 were set by one of the homeowner's family members.
A passerby spotted smoke from the latest fire at the residence in the 4700 block of 136th Avenue in Holland Township. The fire appeared to have started in a back bedroom.
The Holland Township Fire Department enlisted the aid of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department because the nature of the fire was suspicious.
The 49-year-old family member is considered a suspect in the fires, which have caused several hundred thousand dollars in damage, according to the sheriff's department.
The suspect has not yet been arrested, but their vehicle has been impounded as part of the investigation.
