ALLENDALE, Mich. (WOOD) - Four GVSU faculty members will oversee a project to help communities avoid conflicts, such as tourism and birds, with wind turbines.

Erik Nordman, John Koches, Kurt Thompson and Paul Isely were awarded nearly $140,000 in grant money to explore potential conflict with putting wind power facilities in Muskegon, Ottawa and Allegan counties. The grant money came from the Michigan Sea Grant, which looks at issues surrounding wind farms.

The study is expected to be finished by May 2011.
