International Aid 's Board of Directors announced that President and CEO Myles D. Fish submitted a resignation effective April 22.
Roger Spoelman, the chairman of International Aid's board, said in a news release that longtime Christian organizational leader Dr. Gordon Loux will take over as acting CEO.
Loux told 24 Hour News 8 two top administration positions have been cut from the organization due to a decline in donations.
Fish had led International Aid since 2001, overseeing the Spring Lake-based Christian agency's initiatives in health-promoting programming, safe water, and strategic responses to several catastrophic natural and manmade disasters.
During his tenure, International Aid provided both immediate and long-term response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, as well as Hurricane Katrina along the U.S. Gulf Coast and the Southeast Asian Tsunami.
"The board deeply appreciates the dedicated service that Myles gave to the ministry," said Spoelman in a news release. "He has poured himself into the work of International Aid and we are grateful for his contributions and leadership. After eight years of wonderful and blessed service, Myles is looking forward to the next chapter in his journey."
Loux is the former president of Prison Fellowship -- the international prison outreach founded by Chuck Colson -- and has been active in the governance and leadership of many Christian non-profits during his career, including the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.
According to the news release, Loux said the International Aid board has asked him to lead the organization through the challenges of a difficult economic environment and to focus the organization's outreach in ways that will build a bridge to "a more hopeful future."
"I come to this task with the knowledge that this is a time to roll up our sleeves and work hard and pray unceasingly for this ministry," said Loux. "But I also come with the firm belief that International Aid is an organization that God has mightily used to bring hope and healing to the world's most vulnerable people -- and that God can use us to accomplish His purposes."
International Aid was founded in 1980 and has developed a wide reputation for offering practical health solutions to the developing world through donated and refurbished medical equipment, health products, medical training, and a safe water outreach that includes the distribution of the HydrAidTM BioSand Water Filter. The agency also has responded to scores of disasters through the years, providing relief and supplies to people in more than 100 countries and territories around the globe.
