A Holland deputy city attorney was fired and is under investigation for allegedly reducing charges in exchange for sex.
Carl Gabrielse worked for Cunningham Dalman, a law firm in Holland contracted to do official Holland city legal work. He has been doing this type of work since 2004.
The law firm fired him Friday, Holland city attorney Andrew Mulder told 24 Hour News 8.
Police informed Cunningham Dalman on Thursday that Gabrielse was under investigation, Mulder said. The law firm turned over Gabrielse's computer and records of cases he worked on for the city, Mulder added.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department and Holland police are looking into a case where a woman charged with a crime had that charge reduced in exchange for sex, 24 Hour News 8 learned. The sex allegedly happened in the 58th District Courthouse.
After but during the investigation, the woman was wired for evidence.
No arrests have been made, but the investigation continues.
On Saturday, Mulder issued a statement regarding the investigation. Below is a segment of that statement:
"I am shocked and disappointed that such serious allegations have been made against an attorney in whom I placed such trust."
