Area students near Holocaust Museum

Learned about shooting from phone call

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - Dozens of Hudsonville students are in Washington D.C., and were heading to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum when a gunman fired shots inside it.

The group of about 50 students are from Baldwin Street Middle School and Riley Middle School in Hudsonville.

24 Hour News 8 spoke with one of the students in Washington D.C. She said another student's mom had called her cell phone, to ask whether she was OK. That's how the group found out about the shooting.

The teachers chaperoning the trip decided to tour another museum instead. T he Holocaust Museum shut down after the shooting, and police closed all nearby streets.

The students are scheduled to return home from the East Coast trip on Saturday.
