OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Three people were injured -- one seriously -- when a July Fourth celebration turned dangerous.
A firework malfunctioned around 11:30 p.m. Sunday at a home on Van Buren Street, near 96th Avenue, Ottawa County Sheriff's Department dispatchers told 24 Hour News 8.
Responders took three people to the hospital.
Alexandra Eftinov, of Chicago, and Derek Vandenvosh, of Zeeland, were treated at Holland Community Hospital. Vandenvosh, 26, suffered some hearing loss and the 23-year-old was treated for burns. Neither of their injuries are life-threatening.
Jina Kammeraad, 21, was treated for serious burns and other injuries. The Zeeland woman is listed in serious condition at Blodgett's burn unit in Grand Rapids.
The fireworks were supposed to travel straight up but went into the crowd.
