GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Grand Rapids man who violated the school safety zone as a sex offender was sentenced Tuesday to one year in jail.
Benjamin Walcott has credit for 69 days served. He will be held at the Ionia County jail.
Walcott is a registered sex offender who wasn't allowed on school grounds. He previously had admitted to Ionia County Judge Raymond Voet he was at Belding High School.
Michigan State Police officials told 24 Hour News 8 they had been investigating his case for two years. Walcott, they said, used the alias Benjamin Albright and helped at football camps in Ottawa, Allegan and Ionia counties, and at least once on school property in Belding.
