TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan man was one of three U.S. airmen killed when a vehicle they were riding in was struck by an explosive device in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense confirms Saturday that 34-year-old Tech. Sgt. Matthew Schwartz of Traverse City died Thursday in Shir Ghazi in Helmand Province.

Schwartz had been assigned to the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming.

Senior Airman Bryan Bell of Pennsylvania and Airman 1st Class Matthew Seidler of Maryland also were killed.

The 23-year-old Bell was assigned to the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. The 24-year-old Seidler was assigned to the 21st Civil Engineer Squadron at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado.
