REED CITY, Mich. (AP/WOOD) - A 32-year-old Michigan teacher who authorities say had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy is facing charges.
WPBN and the Cadillac News report Janet Brown of Evart was arraigned Tuesday on three felony counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Police say the relationship was discovered through mobile phone messages.
Brown's lawyer James Talaske says she has lifelong ties to the area. A judge set bond at $50,000 and she was released. A preliminary hearing is Dec. 6.
Brown was placed on leave earlier this month and arrested Monday.
She worked for the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District and assigned to the Ashmun School on the Eagle Village Youth Detention Center's campus in Hersey, according to Michigan State Police.
The teen is a student at the Ashmun School at Eagle Village, police said. Eagle Village provides critical help for troubled teens in Michigan, according to its website.
