SHELBY, Mich. (WOOD) - Michigan State Police told 24 Hour News 8 they are conducting an investigation into Shelby Public Schools Superintendent Scott Lund.
The alleged crime does not involve children, officials with the Oceana County school district say.
School board president Steve Vinke told 24 Hour News 8 he would like to say more but doesn't want to interfere with the investigation. He says the case has something to do with Lund's position with the district.
Vinke said a school board member was approached Dec. 6 with information about Lund. The member contacted Vinke the next day. Then on the morning of Dec. 8, the board member and board president met with the superintendent, and then contacted the district's attorney who informed them Lund should be placed on paid administrative leave.
Vinke notified the other members of the board, and Lund was placed on paid leave on Dec. 8. Michigan State Police was contacted the next day to begin an investigation.
A special board meeting was held Monday night. The school board approved placing Lund on leave pending the results of the investigation, and appointed Mike Matlosz as interim superintendent. Matlosz is a retired superintendent who acted as interim superintendent for the district for about three months after Dana McGrew resigned in 2010 and before the board hired Lund.
The school board conducted an annual evaluation of Lund in February. Officials said Lund met or exceeded the board's expectations in numerous categories.
