Widespread power outage in Big Rapids

16,000 Consumers Energy customers affected

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A widespread power outage has affected more than 16,000 Consumers Energy customers in Big Rapids.

The outage occurred around 1 p.m. Friday, and resulted in Ferris State University to close classes for the rest of the day.

Crews have done some switching and rerouting, which restored some power to 2,200 customers.

There is no cause to the outage and there is no estimate to when service will be completely restored.
