Paper delivery cut more in Newaygo Co.

Press, Chronicle in stores only three days a week

NEWAYGO, Mich. (WOOD) - It appears Newaygo County residents have fewer options if they want to pick up the daily newspaper.

Earlier this month, West Michigan's largest newspapers, including the Grand Rapids Press and Muskegon Chronicle, cut home delivery to three days a week for all subscribers.

Management had told readers that a daily version of the paper would still be available in stores and at news stands.

But viewers alerted 24 Hour News 8 this week to a problem in Newaygo County and some surrounding areas, saying stores were not been getting the daily version.

24 Hour News 8 spoke with stores in Sparta, Newaygo, White Cloud and Grant. Managers at each store said they were expecting to receive newspapers every day, but it hasn't happened. Instead, the stores are getting newspapers delivered Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday -- the same days as scheduled home delivery.

Many stores said they are disappointed about the apparent change.

It is unclear whether the lack of delivery is a mistake, or if other areas are also not getting the service they expected. Repeated calls to managers at the Grand Rapids Press have not been returned.
