WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WOOD) - The police report on the October car crash that left a White Cloud couple dead indicates the wreck may have been caused by distracted driving.

Dale and Carol Cruzan, both in their early 60s, were killed Oct. 12 in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of M-20 and Elm Avenue near White Cloud.

The report obtained by 24 Hour News 8 shows the Cruzan's car was hit on the driver's side by a Pontiac.

The driver of the Pontiac, whose name has been redacted from the report, told investigators he was looking down at his phone and a GPS app when he crashed into the Cruzan's vehicle.

He said that he had been a friend's house shooting guns before the crash, but that he had not been drinking. Blood tests conducted by the Newaygo County Sheriff's Department appear to confirm that, showing a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of 0.00.

The unidentified driver was cited for disregarding a stop sign.

The case remains open and it does not appear any charges have been filed in connection to the crash.
