GREEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A driver who was distracted by his cell phone caused a two-vehicle collision Tuesday in Mecosta County, police say.

Rescue personnel responded to the accident about 3:15 p.m. on Northland Drive near 21 Mile Road in Green Township.

A northbound vehicle driven by a 53-year-old from Hersey was stopped behind another vehicle whose driver was waiting to turn.

A third driver -- a 19-year-old man from Evart who was also traveling northbound -- told police he looked at his cell phone prior to crashing into the Hersey resident's vehicle.

A 51-year-old woman from Hersey, who was the passenger in the hit vehicle, was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
