TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - Police say officers fatally shot a pickup driver who pulled out a high-powered rifle outside his ex-wife's house following a multi-county chase in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle says that 56-year-old Gary Welch of Oscoda fled after sheriff's deputies in Crawford County tried to stop him for crossing the center line.
Police say the Welch led officers through Kalkaska County and into Grand Traverse County early Tuesday. They say he emerged with a rifle outside his ex-wife's home in Traverse City and refused officers' orders that he drop it.
Police say Crawford County deputies and Traverse City police fired at him. No officers were wounded.
